This campaign aims to raise awareness of the ramellet tomato as a local variety, and to make people aware of the importance of knowing how to identify it in the local market.<\/p>

Our organization has been working for years to prevent the misappropriation of the ramellet tomato.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The commercial variety, which has appropriated the name of ramellet tomato, is produced under plastic<\/strong>, with improved seeds<\/strong>, grown during the winter<\/strong> and marketed right after harvest.<\/p>

The Mallorcan ramellet tomato is considered a group variety, since in the common name of the ramellet tomato we find many different denominations, such as: crawling<\/em>, iron, hanging, white, authentic, star... Each one comes from a different type of selection and handling, which makes them morphologically and ethnoecologically different.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In order to document and register the name of the ramellet tomato, in 2010 we requested<\/strong> that of one of the ideotypes of the ramellet tomato in register at the\u2019Office<\/em> Spanish<\/em> from<\/em> Varieties<\/em> Vegetables<\/em> (OEVV)<\/strong>, from the Ministry of Agriculture. Specifically, the tomato was sent from the Can Nicolau nurseries, in Sant Joan and originally from Son Suau, in Manacor.<\/p>

After two years of testing, The ramellet tomato was registered as a conservation variety<\/strong>, and was published in the BOE No. 127 of May 28, 2012.<\/p>

The Spanish Plant Variety Office has declared that the name of a conservation variety cannot be registered as a trademark<\/strong>, under article 48 of the law on the protection of plant varieties, given that the trademark grants an exclusive right of use to its owner and the denomination of a variety implies the obligation of use to everyone who uses the variety. For all this, It is not possible for there to be brands with the names of local varieties.<\/strong><\/p>

Law 17\/2001 on Trademarks establishes some absolute prohibitions according to which Signs or indications that have become common to designate products in common language cannot be registered as trademarks.<\/strong> or in the loyal customs<\/strong> and constants of trade<\/strong>, and not those that may mislead the public<\/strong>, for example on the nature, quality or geographical origin of the product or service. The latter point is also affected by European regulations on labelling.<\/p>

Seeing this, the 'de ramellet de Mallorca' tomato guarantee mark\u2018<\/strong> It covers certain types of tomatoes (not a variety), which may have different characteristics from the 'ramellet' variety registered in the Variety Register, thus, violates a common prohibition for the two aforementioned laws and the Community regulation<\/strong> for misleading the public about the characteristics and nature in labeling and marketing.<\/p>

The design is by Theme<\/a>. With a close, demanding and somewhat irreverent tone, the message emphasizes three major common events that have to do with this product: Hang. Scrub, Eat. .<\/p>

The campaign also highlights, on the backs of the postcards, three messages:<\/p>
