Local fodder and flowers from Mallorca

Rediscovering the local forages of Mallorca

In this project, we are focusing on forages such as the Mallorcan plaster, the marsh, l’Mallorcan alfalfai, the saleçin Mallorcan or the unknown coffeeè Mallorcani. Other species of interest are also included such as blue and white chalks, the’enclave, the fodder beet and even the’enclave of Menorca, to better understand its adaptation and nutritional value within sustainable agricultural practices.

The work being done includes the prospectó, the characterizationor and multiplication of each of the varieties.

• In this first work, what has been done has been to make the prospecting of Mallorcan coffee; blue and white chalks, Mallorcan vetch, Mallorcan chalk, Mallorcan alfalfa, margall, enclove, fodder beet and enclove from Menorca.

• The characterization It has been done on three of the varieties studied, Mallorcan coffee, enclove and Mallorcan alfalfa.

• And, finally, the multiplication of fodder has been made on the Majorcan broad bean; black bean; Majorcan broad bean; Majorcan chickpea; Majorcan lentils; Majorcan coffee; Majorcan alfalfa and enclove

This research not only aims to recover forgotten varieties, but also reinforcementfood sovereigntyaria, improve biodiversity i to promote livestock farmingéis rooted in the territory.

We invite all interested people —farmers, ranchers, researchers and consumers— to join this collective process of knowledge, experimentation and dissemination.

Flowers from here: recovering the traditional floral varieties of Mallorca

From the’Associationó of Local Varieties, we are working for recover, study and preserve Mallorcan flowers of local varieties, which have been cultivated and loved generation after generation, seed after seed. These flowers not only have ornamental and cultural value, but are also a treasure of biodiversity, resilientèance i local identity.

Among the species we are studying we find the perpetual red, the lilac, the pink and the white, as well as the popcorn o flakes, the pot tobacco, the pink mistic, the clove, the rooster combs, the blond tobacco (also in version of white flower), the handshake, the cosmos, the crowned sun, the capuchin, the waterfall, the beautiful, the Americans, the September, the margalidera de sinia, the healthyAll Saints' Day and the brilliant.

Three aspects have been worked on regarding flowers. prospectó, the characterizationor and multiplication.

• Thus the prospecting It has been made from each and every one of the varieties studied. This is the red, lilac, pink and white perennials. Poppies or floquets, the tobacco of the leg, the tobacco of the blonde and the tobacco of the white flower, the mystic rose, the carnation of the corn, the crests of the cockscomb, the lanceolate, the cosmos, the sun crowned, the nasturtium, the cascai, the bellveure, the americans, the setembrins, the margalidera of sinia, the sage of All Saints and the brilliants.

• The characterization In this first analysis, all varieties of perpetuals, pot tobacco and poplars or floquets were analyzed.

• And the multiplication on the same plants that have been characterized, namely pespètues, tobacco and poplars in addition to the mystic rose, the carnation and the cockscomb.

These flowers speak of our land and our history. With this project, we want reconnect with popular knowledge, recover vivid and colorful landscapes, and offer more sustainable alternatives for local gardening and floriculture.
