Last January, Mallorca was a meeting point between the different state experiences in organic seed production and local varieties.
On Thursday the 23rd, an internal meeting was held in Montuïri, to provide continuity to a first meeting held in April 2023 in the Basque Country.
The day began with an internal meeting between all the participants to address different proposals for collaboration and common work. This event, moderated by the president of the Seeds Network, Maria Carrascosa from the Entretantos Foundation and for the coordination of the local entity of Mireia Sisquella, and the project managers of our entity, Sebastià Grimalt and Aina Socies.
On Friday the 24th, a conference was held in Porreres, on the Production of organic seeds and local varieties. In addition to our organization, representatives from the organizations that participated in this conference were: Aleka, an entity of the Basque Country, as well as The Refards, The Era and the Eixarcolant Collective, all of them from Catalonia.
On Friday, the day was open to the public and was a space where the entities explained their work. The different ways of doing work of each entity and it was a space where attendees could learn first-hand about the experience in seed multiplication.
There was also a round table, which under the moderation of Aina Calafat served to put on the table some data from the CBPAE (which was provided by technician Antònia Guiscafrè) and also to learn about the contributions made by the organic farmers participating in the day (Pep Cirer, Omar Jover and Biel Bauzà.
The Director General of Agriculture, Fernando Fernández, was also present during these events.
These conferences were made possible thanks to training grants from FOGAIBA and the subsidy from the Promotion, Conservation and Sustainable Use of Phylogenetic Resources in Agriculture, also from FOGAIBA. It is also worth noting the support of the Porreres City Council.
